ClefWorks Ignited! Set to Light Up Montgomery
February 15, 2011
Montgomery, AL — ClefWorks, an innovative Montgomery chamber music organization, is bringing the entire River Region some fireworks in February with ClefWorks Ignited!, its 2011 Festival on February 26-March 1, featuring Fireworks Ensemble.
Fireworks Ensemble, an eight-member group hailing from New York City, is bringing some snap, crackle and pop to Montgomery and the surrounding areas thanks to its classically trained but multi-talented players that combine instruments from the rock, jazz and classical worlds into a flexible chamber ensemble that can literally play anything, regardless of genre, vintage or orchestration. ClefWorks Ignited! is offering three different chances to “catch the fire.”
The first performance, entitled “Dance Mix,” on February 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the RSA Activity Center promises festive fun as Fireworks frolics, waltzes, swings and rocks through 700 years of music from around the world, including contemporary favorites like blues standard “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” and disco sensation “Stayin’ Alive.”
To turn up the volume on this event’s entertainment factor, guests are invited to join the party and come dressed as movers and groovers from any era. Anything from Renaissance garb to go-go boots is fair game. (Costumes are encouraged, but not required.)
Next, ClefWorks goes outside of the box and the building to present “American Afternoon,” a free Fireworks performance amid the pastoral setting at Hampstead Farms in the Hampstead community on February 27 at 3p.m. that is designed to delight the entire family. Walled tents, heaters and the exciting music should keep guests warm.
On February 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the RSA Activity Center, ClefWorks unveils a musical experience that truly defies categorization. Fireworks’ “Rite of Spring/None of the Above” concert pairs a rock-inspired reinvention of the famous Stravinsky piece and a Frank Zappa instrumental.
Offering our area the opportunity to enjoy such eclectic and energetic performances is directly in keeping with ClefWorks’ fresh approach to chamber music. ClefWorks brings the power of music to life, providing chamber music performances and educational events in unique venues with unexpected additions.
“Now in our fifth season, it is truly fitting that our featured musicians are a group called Fireworks Ensemble,” said ClefWorks’ board president Glenda Allred. “From a single spark when we were founded, enthusiasm for chamber music has exploded and is spreading all across our community.”
ClefWorks Ignited! is possible thanks to the generosity of this year’s Bravo Sponsor, Regions Bank as well as support from the Alabama State Council for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Ticket prices for the two ticketed performances are $20 for adults, and $15 for students and the military. All tickets are general admission.
