ClefWorks Announces World Premiere

A set of songs newly commissioned by Clefworks and the JK Lowder Family Foundation will highlight the 2015 Festival Season.

Written by Mohammed Fairouz, “one of the most talented composers of his generation” (BBC World News) and known for his musical diplomacy, the song cycle will be performed by the GRAMMY-nominated Imani Winds and baritone soloist Sidney Outlaw.

The song texts include poetry by Langston Hughes (The Negro Speaks of Rivers; Let America be America Again), the Black Civil War Soldier’s Chant, and the traditional American spiritual Deep River with a new melody by Fairouz.
